Couple killed in Gazipur road accident

A couple has been killed after getting hit by a covered van at Sreepur upazila in Gazipur.

The accident took place on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway near Nayanpur around 11:15am on Thursday, said Maona highway police OC Kamal Hossain.

He identified the two deceased as Abul Hossain, 78, and his wife Rupjan Begum, of Chakpara village under Maona union.

The OC said the speeding covered van had hit the couple when they were crossing the road.

Locals rushed them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition, but the duty doctor pronounced them dead on arrival.

Their bodies were handed over to family members without autopsies as they did not file any complaint.

Police, however, are yet to locate the killer van and its driver.
