Tangail doctor dies of Covid despite getting both shots of vaccine

A gynaecologist at Tangail General Hospital has died of Covid-19 even after receiving both doses of vaccine.

Dr Jakia Rashid Shafir, who lived in the town’s East Adalatpara area, breathed her last while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Monday night.

Confirming the matter, Tangail General Hospital Resident Medical Officer Dr Shafiqul Islam Sajib said Dr Jakia had tested Covid-19 positive a week ago and was admitted to CMH.

She was put on life support after her condition deteriorated on Sunday. She passed away on Monday night, he added.

Dr Jakia was the wife of Brigadier Mizanur of the Bangladesh Army medical corps.

So far, two doctors have died in the district.

Dr Majed Ali, the medical officer of the Family Planning Office in Madhupur upazila, had died of Covid-19 on July 9.
