Covid-19: 14 more die, 773 new cases in Barisal

The deadly disease has so far killed 499 people in the division

Barisal division recorded 14 more Covid-19-related deaths in the 24 hours between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Of them, five were confirmed Covid-19 patients and the other nine were showing symptoms of the deadly disease -- which has so far killed 499 people in the division, according to Dr Basudeb Kumar Das, the divisional health director.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, 773 new Covid-19 cases were also recorded in the six districts under the division, taking the total number of cases to 36,140.

Of the total number of patients, however, 19,980 people have recovered.

Dr Das said of the five latest deceased, two were from Bhola and one each from Barisal, Patuakhali and Jhalakathi districts.

He said nine of the deceased who were showing symptoms of Covid-19 had passed away in the isolation ward of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH).

SBMCH sources said 814 patients with symptoms have so far died in the hospital’s isolation ward and 332 confirmed patients in the corona ward.

Currently, the hospital is treating 349 people in both wards.
