Child dies after mother doles out corporal punishment in Dinajpur

In a tragic incident, a nine-year-old child has died after she was beaten by her mother as corporal punishment in Hakimpur upazila, Dinajpur.

The incident took place at the upazila’s Baigram village on Friday night, according to police and locals.

The mother, Rozina Khatun, was detained by police soon after the girl, named Monisha Khatun, died.

She was shown arrested by police after her husband Mohsin Ali filed a murder case against her on Saturday, said Hakimpur police station OC Mostafizur Rahman.

OC Rahman said Monisha was injured critically after Rozina had beaten the child to discipline her on Friday night.

The child was rushed to Hakimpur Upazila Health-Complex first. As her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital. She died there while undergoing treatment, the OC added.
