Covid-19: 21 more die, 388 new cases in Barisal

The deadly disease has so far killed 553 people in the division

Barisal division recorded 21 more Covid-19-related deaths in the 24 hours between Sunday and Monday mornings.

Of them, six were confirmed Covid-19 patients and the other 15 were showing symptoms of the deadly disease -- which has so far killed 553 people in the division, according to Dr Basudeb Kumar Das, the divisional health director.

Between Sunday and Monday mornings, 388 new Covid-19 cases were also recorded in the six districts under the division, taking the total number of cases to 38,684.

Of the total number of patients, however, 21,192 people have recovered.

Dr Das said of the six latest deceased, two each were from Patuakhali and Barguna and one each from Barisal and Bhola districts.

He said 15 of the deceased who were showing symptoms of Covid-19 had passed away in the isolation ward of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH).

SBMCH sources said 884 patients with symptoms have so far died in the hospital’s isolation ward and 341 confirmed patients in the corona ward.

Currently, the hospital is treating 227 people in both wards.
