3 men, including 2 Chinese nationals, killed in road crash

The driver lost control of the car and crashed into a ditch

Three people, including two Chinese nationals, were killed and one other injured when their car crashed into a ditch after losing control at Barguna on Monday.

The accident occurred at the Cowabunga area of Amtali upazila, Barguna at around 2am Monday.

Later, police recovered the bodies and brought them to Amtali police station on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Li Wen Tao, a safety officer of the Chinese Shanghai Electric Power Construction Company, engineer Lu Ji Kalang, and their interpreter Fakhrul Hasan.

All of them were working at the Khottarchar Thermal Power Plant in the Taltoli area of the upazila.

Police suspect the accident occurred as the driver lost control of the car and crashed into the ditch near the Cowabunga area of the upazila at around 2am, when they were coming back to their workplace from Dhaka in a rented car.

The accident left Tao, Lu and Fakhrul dead on spot, while driver Musa Mridha had a minor injury. Mridha was taken to the Corona unit of Amtali upazila Health Complex.

Tonmoy, an interpreter of Taltoli Thermal Power Station, confirmed that victims were returning from Dhaka to the power station.

An unnatural death case has been filed in connection with the incident, said Amtali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Alam Hawladar.

Authorities at the power plant and the Chinese embassy will make necessary arrangements to send the bodies of the two Chinese citizens back to their country, said the OC.
