Thousands of devotees turn for the namaz-e-janaza
Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Ameer Maulana Junaid Babunagari has been buried at the Al Jameatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Moinul Islam-Hathazari Madrasa, popularly known as Hathazari Madrasa.
He was laid to rest beside his predecessor, Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, after the namaz-e-janaza at the madrasa at around 11pm on Thursday, Chittagong District Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Afruzul Haque Tutul confirmed.
Thousands of devotees from different parts of the country took part in the namaz-e-janaza that was led by Allama Mahibullah Babungari, Junaid’s son and the new Hefazat chief.
Additional police were deployed in Hathazari upazila to avoid untoward incidents and assist in the smooth conduct of namaz-e-janaza along with maintaining normal traffic, said SP Tutul.
Additional police were also deployed from the adjoining Rangamati-Khagrachhari district and Chittagong Range Reserve on Thursday afternoon.
Junaid Babunagari died of a stroke while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chittagong at the age of 67.
He had been suffering from different old age complications including kidney problems and diabetes.
The Islamic preacher took the helm of Hefazat-e-Islam in November 2020, after the death of Allama Shafi, the first ameer and supreme leader of the organization.
