As many as 123 hill cutting incidents have been recorded from June 2003 to 2021
The Department of Environment (DoE) has fined four people a total of Tk1.85 lakh for razing hills in different parts of Chittagong.
DoE Chittagong Metropolitan Director Mohammad Nurullah Noori imposed the fines on Sunday afternoon, said Deputy Director Mia Mahmudul Hoque.
Raghu Dasgupta was fined Tk40,000, Baijid Ridian Hossain Tk45,000, Abdur Rahim Tk40,000 and Samshul Huda Tk60,000 for cutting down hills in the port city.

The DoE said it will take strict action if the four men fail to pay the fines within seven days.
The Chittagong DoE office has recorded 123 hill cutting incidents in the metropolitan area from June 2003 to 2021.
