Earlier, a Dinajpur court sent five people, including three CID officials, to jail over the incident
A court in Dinajpur has rejected the bail plea of three officials of Rangpur Criminal Investigation Department (CID) accused of abducting a woman and her son for ransom in Dinajpur.
The three accused -- CID ASP Sarowar Kabir, SI Hasinur Rahman and constable Ahsanul Haque -- were sent to jail after the court rejected their plea on Thursday, confirmed Inspector Moniruzzaman.
Meanwhile, the case was handed over to the Detective Branch of police, said Charirbandar police OC Subrata Kumar Sarker.
Among the five, also in police custody, Fasiul Alam Palash gave a confessional statement at the court of Fourth Dinajpur Judicial Magistrate Shishir Kumar Basu.
On the other hand, DB OC Mostafizur Rahman said that there are five more accused in the case but he refused to name them for the sake of the investigation.
On Wednesday, five people including three CID officials were sent to jail over allegations of abducting Zahura Begum and her son Jahangir and demanding Tk15 lakh as ransom for their release.
The accused abducted the two from their home in Nandedai village of Chirirbandar upazila in Dinajpur on Monday and demanded ransom money from Zahura’s husband Lutfar Rahman and brother-in-law Ramzan Ali over the phone.
The abductees’ family members then contacted the police and RAB for their rescue.
Lutfar and Ramzan went to pay the ransom near Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University at 5pm on Tuesday.
The abductors were nearby, but fled the scene by their microbus after realizing that Lutfar and Ramzan were accompanied by plainclothesmen.
After a short chase, police caught Sarwar, Hasinur, Ahsanul and microbus driver Habibur Rahman at a place called 10 Mile in the district while Polash was arrested later in connection with the abduction.
