Police headquarters have yet to suspend ASP Sarwar Kabir, the main accused in the case
Two of the three CID officials of Rangpur arrested over the abduction of a woman and her son have been suspended.
They are ASI Hasinur Rahman and constable Ahsanul Faruk.

When contacted, SP Ataur Rahman of Rangpur CID refused to comment on the reason behind the delay in ASP Sarwar’s suspension.
According to a CID source, since Sarwar is a high-ranking police officer, the authorities concerned need the home ministry’s approval to suspend him, which has yet to be given.
Meanwhile, a committee headed by SP Pankaj Kumar of Dinajpur CID has been formed to investigate the incident.

On Wednesday, five people including three CID officials were sent to jail over allegations of abducting Zahura Begum and her son Jahangir and demanding Tk15 lakh as ransom for their release.
The accused abducted the two from their home in Nandedai village of Chirirbandar upazila in Dinajpur on Monday and demanded ransom from Zahura’s husband Lutfar Rahman and brother-in-law Ramzan Ali over the phone.
The abductees’ family members then contacted the police and RAB seeking help.
Lutfar and Ramzan went to pay the ransom near Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University at 5pm on Tuesday.
The abductors were nearby but fled the scene by their microbus after realizing that Lutfar and Ramzan were accompanied by plainclothesmen.
After a short chase, police caught Sarwar, Hasinur, Ahsanul and microbus driver Habibur Rahman at a place called 10 Mile in the district while Polash was arrested later in connection with the abduction.
