About 50 illegal brickfields were built in the Bandarban forest
The Department of Environment has fined 28 brick kilns Tk1.85 crore for operating illegally and cutting down hills in Bandarban.
Offiials of the DoE’s Chittagong divisional office raided the brick kilns in Lama upazila of Bandarban on Tuesday.
They fined the owners under sections 7 and 12 of the Bangladesh Environmental Protection Act 1995 (amended in 2010) for causing damage to the environment.

Mofidul Alam, director of DoE’s Chittagong Divisional Office, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
According to local sources, around 50 brickfields have been operating inside the forest of Faitong area in Lama illegally. They use wood as fuel and raze the hills.
