Trains run over three in Narsingdi in separate incidents

All three victims died on spot upon collison

Three people died in Narsingdi on Wednesday as trains ran over them in two separate incidents.

One of the incidents involving two youths took place on the Dhaka-Sylhet-Chittagong railway in Jinardi area of Taroa and Palash upazilas of Narsingdi, around 6pm.

The deceased were identified as Kazi Nazrul Islam Babar, 21, and Morshed Khan, 17, both hailed from Feni, said Sub-Inspector Imaedul Jahedi of the Narsingdi railway police outpost.

According to railway police and witnesses, the two were walking on the railway track in the Taroa area. Both of them used to work at a factory and simply stepped out for a walk.

At that time the intercity train Jayantika Express was leaving Sylhet for Dhaka.

Upon seeing the two men on the railway, the train blew its whistle several times but the youths could not hear the sound as they had earphones plugged in, according to witnesses. 

In a separate incident, a 26-year-old man was killed when the Mahanagar Express train ran over him near the Jinardi railway station in Palash at 9am.

The deceased was identified as Sohag Mia, 26, son of Ayub Ali Mia of Mahishasura, Khilgaon village.
