Drug addict kills father in Khagrachhari

A man was hacked to death on Friday by his drug addict son at Dighinala upazila in Khagrachhari.

The deceased was identified as Md Mintu Miah, 50, from Jamtoli Bangalipara of the upazila.

According to locals, Mintu’s son Jasim Uddin Jony, 24, used to take different drugs regularly despite being warned by his father.

On Friday noon, when an intoxicated Jony came to the house, his father scolded him and they engaged in an argument over his drug abuse.

At one point, Jony attacked his father with a locally-made sharp weapon and fled the scene.

Other members of the family rushed the injured to Dighinala Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition, where the duty doctor pronounced him dead.

Police later detained Jony at around 8pm in the evening from Maddhyabedpara of the upazila.

Dighinala police Officer in-Charge AKM Peyar Ahmed said the body was kept at the health complex for an autopsy. “A case will be filed in this connection.”
