The 92-year-old was unable to sign up for any government allowance due to the gaffe

An elderly woman discovered herself to be dead while trying to register for her old-age allowance in Rajbari.

Ninety-two-year-old Golapjaan Bibi is a resident of Rajbari’s Baliakandi upazila.

“They couldn’t find my mother’s information on the server when we went to the union council chairman’s office to register for the allowance,” her son Madhu Mandal told Dhaka Tribune on Thursday.

Local Union Parishad Chairman Md Abdus Salam said that he went to the district election officer over the matter where he found that Golapjaan Bibi was listed as deceased.

“There have been many complaints of a son being 25 years older than the mother or a father being only four years older than his son,” Salam said.

Previously on Wednesday, a man of the same upazila, who teaches at  a madrasa under the government’s MPO (monthly pay order) scheme, failed to register to get his coronavirus vaccine as the database showed he was dead.

A similar incident was also reported in Chittagong on Sunday when a 70-year-old failed to register for his vaccine due to the same reason.
