The truck-jackers were arrested during raids at different parts of the port city, say police
Police in Chittagong have arrested ten people over the murder of a security guard during a truck robbery.
On September 6, a truck loaded with raw materials for the Abul Khair Steel Mill was robbed just outside the port city. The body of security guard Abul Hashem Nirob was found at the back of the truck later the same day when the truck reached the factory following the robbery.
The Akbar Shah Police Station in Chittagong said on Thursday that ten arrests were made from different parts of the city over the murder.
“They were arrested in raids at the Pahartali, Khulshi, Halishahar and Bandar neighbourhoods of the city between Wednesday and Thursday,” said OC Mohammad Zahir Hossain.
According to him, they all belong to a gang of truck-jackers which robbed trucks on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway containing raw materials for steel factories.
During the initial interrogation, the suspects confessed to being involved in the robbery and murder on September 6, added OC Hossain.
The suspects have been identified as Mohammad Rocky, 22, Mohammad Russell Akhan, 26, Mohammad Abdullah, 20, Mohammad Rana Parvez, 19, Mohammad Ibrahim Shanto, 20, Mohammad Abdur Raihan, 19, Mohammad Ali Ramzan, 20, Mohammad Abdul Jalil, 62, Mohammad Mojibur Rahman Ripon, 30 and Md Sajjad, 30.
