Each tea worker received Tk5,000 as cash assistance
The government has distributed about Tk94 lakh among 1,879 tea workers at Barlekha upazila of Moulvibazar under the Tea Workers Livelihood Improvement Program.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin distributed the cash assistance as the chief guest at a function held at the Upazila Parishad auditorium.
Each tea worker received Tk5,000 as cash assistance under the program, being implemented by the Social Welfare Department.

He also handed over the keys of newly-built houses worth Tk68 lakh among 17 families, a ministry press release said.
At another function held at Barlekha upazila, Shahab laid the foundation stone of a Tk1.03 crore-academic building of Nari Shikkha Academy Degree College and inaugurated a flower garden marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Among others, acting general secretary of Barlekha Upazila Awami League Rafiqul Islam Sundar, Barlekha Municipality Mayor Abu Imam Md Kamran Chowdhury, college Principal AKM Helal Uddin and local Awami League leader Kabiruzzaman Chowdhury were present at the meeting with Barlekha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khandaker Mudassir Bin Ali in the chair.
