A bailey bridge in Tangail’s Nagarpur suffered structural damage early Friday
Traffic on the Tangail-Aricha Highway became suspended after a bailey bridge in Tangail’s Nagarpur upazila suffered structural damage due to overloading in the early hours of Friday.
The incident occurred around 4:30am when a log-laden truck attempted to cross the bridge in the Tengripara area of Bhadra union under the upazila.
Till the writing of this report at 11:30am, vehicular movement on the regional highway remained suspended, confirmed Bhadra Union Chairman Habibur Rahman Khan.
“A log-laden truck, heading to Manikganj from Nagarpur, broke through one of the steel decks of the bailey bridge and became stuck. A similar accident occurred just 15 days ago,” Habibur Rahman said.

“Although the bridge has the capacity of carrying a maximum load of eight tons, accidents constantly occur as truck drivers on this route irresponsibly ignore the weight limit in place,” he added.
Authorities concerned including the Upazila Nirbahi Officer have been informed to find a permanent solution to this problem, he furthered.
According to the locals, vehicles from Daulatpur, Manikganj, Dhaka, Faridpur, Rajbari and other areas use this bridge every day.
SM Alamin, assistant engineer of Tangail Roads and Highways Department, said the vehicular movement will resume on the regional highway once the deck of the bridge is repaired.
