The strike will continue until the demands are met, says a local workers union leader
The Sunamganj District Road Transport Workers' Union went on an indefinite bus strike on Sunday morning demanding an end to extortion from the bus drivers on Sylhet Bypass Road, causing immense suffering to passengers.
Nurul Haque, general secretary of the organization, said some extortionists had been realizing Tk50 per bus on Sylhet Bypass Road from September 1.
They also informed the matter to local administration but the latter took no steps to resolve their problem.

“The strike will continue until our demand is met,” he added.
Sunamganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Mizanur Rahman said that he had urged the transport workers to inform the matter to Sylhet police since the Sylhet Bypass Road falls under their jurisdiction.
The SP said that he had nothing to do regarding the matter.
