Armed Police Battalion (APBn) has recovered the body of an elephant from Shalbon Rohingya camp in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
After much effort, the elephant's body was recovered from a stream around 9:30am on Monday, confirmed Cox's Bazar APBn-16 Superintended of Police (SP) Md Tariqul Islam.
The Forestry Department and Elephant Response Team (ERT) have been informed to come and take further action, he added.
In late August, police arrested a man in Ramu of Cox’s Bazar for electrocuting an Asian elephant and trying to bury it after cutting off its head and legs.
There were just 163 Asian elephants in the forest area of Cox’s Bazar and 20 of them bred in the last two years, say officials.
