The driver was drowsy and was repeatedly warned to drive properly

A man has died and at least 15 others were injured after a Dhaka bound bus fell into a ditch in Tangail district.

The accident took place in Jodurpara area under Narandia upazila of the district in early hours of Tuesday.

Confirming the matter,  Tangail Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Md Alauddin said they have recovered the body and identified it as Sayed Ali Khan, 60, from Naogaon.

The deceased’s nephew, Aminul Islam, said his uncle and two other members of their family started for Dhaka from Naogaon on Monday night. 

After the bus crossed the Bangabandhu Bridge, it took the Bhuapur route instead of the highway. The driver was repeatedly warned to drive properly. Later, the bus lost control of the road and fell into the ditch, he added.

Passengers of the bus informed Dhaka Tribune that the driver was drowsy. The accident happened even after repeatedly warning the driver.The driver, helper and supervisor of the bus managed to flee after the incident.
