Two trains on the same track and moving in opposite directions were barely saved from a collision on Tuesday.
One of the train drivers stopped the train 120 yards away from the other train. Train operations have been halted on the Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet route due to this incident.
At about 1:48pm on Tuesday, the two trains entered the track in the Dharmapukur area of Comilla Sadar.
Authorities concerned said that the Dhaka-bound Karnaphuli Express entered Comilla station nearly 20 minutes later than its scheduled time.
During this time, the train Max going toward Chittagong came from the opposite direction.
Passengers of Karnaphuli Express got down in a hurry anticipating a collision. It is not yet known if anyone was injured during this commotion.
Karnaphuli Express staff are accusing the station master of negligence whereas Max staff are blaming Karnaphuli’s driver.
Comilla Station Master Shafikur Rahman Bhuiyan said this incident might have been a misunderstanding. Train operations will be brought to normal within a short time.
Liakat Ali, Deputy Assistant Engineer of Comilla Railway, said he just heard about the incident and rapid measures were being taken.
