Elderly woman jabbed twice in 2 minutes in Sunamganj

An elderly woman received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in two minutes at Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex in Sunamganj on Monday.

The woman was identified as Khudeja Khatun, 74, wife of Khelu Miah at Noanogar village under Sreepur Dakkhin union of Tahirpur upazila.

Khudeja Begum said she was resting on a chair after receiving her first dose of Sinopharm vaccine.

Suddenly, another health worker came and administered another dose of vaccine.

Khudeja’s husband Khelu Miah said that he had asked a nurse if there would be any side effects of having two doses of the vaccine.

However, the nurse told them that there was nothing to be worried about, and that they could go home.

The nurse, Mariam Begum, who administered the second vaccine, apologized for the incident.

She said the incident took place due to the huge crowd at the vaccination centre.

Health and Family Planning Officer Syed Abu Ahmed Shafi said a person should not be vaccinated twice the same day. “We will take action after investigation, if we find any complaint in this regard.”

This is not the first time the vaccinators administered two doses of vaccine to the same person in a day.

Earlier, there were reports of similar incidents in Khulna, Thakurgaon, and Gopalganj as well.
