A 13-year-old girl has been raped by a young man in Barisal's Hijla upazila.
Accused Ataullah Mollah, 20, carries passengers on a motorcycle. He had been harassing the girl for a long time, her family members said on Tuesday, adding that they would file a case in this regard.
According to her family, Ataullah and his accomplices--Sharif, Sefayetullah and Rubel Sikder--raped the sixth-grader on her way to school around noon on Monday.
In the afternoon, she fell ill due to excessive bleeding as a result of the rape and lost consciousness. She was admitted to Upazila Health Complex at night for medical treatment.
Dr Shahraj of Hijla Upazila Health Complex said they would refer the girl to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital if her condition deteriorates.
Abdul Motaleb, the headmaster of the rape survivor’s school, said he had asked the student to come to the hospital for treatment, and also informed the police.
Inspector (Investigation) Tareq Hasan Russell said they were trying to arrest the culprit.
The girl’s mother and the locals have demanded quick arrest of the accused and a fair trial.
