Weapons used during the robbery were seized from their possession
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-14 on Sunday arrested five robbers in connection with the killing of two passengers during a robbery on a Jamalpur-bound commuter train.
The arrestees are Swadhin, 26, Rishad, 28, Hasan, 22, Rubel, 31, and Mohammad, 25.
A team of Mymensingh based RAB-14 arrested Swadhin from the Shikarikanda area of Mymensingh around 1am. Later, based on Swadhin’s information, Rab arrested other four robbers, the media wing of the Rab Headquarters said in a press release on Sunday.
During the arrest, weapons and mobile phone sets were seized from their possession.
Earlier on Thursday night, a group of robbers climbed on top of a Dewanganj-bound train from Mymensingh’s Gafargaon station and attacked three people when they tried to stop them from taking their cash and their mobile phones.
The attackers first stabbed Nahid and Sagar and then attacked Rubel before getting off the train near Kewatkhali Rail Bridge in Mymensingh city, SI Sohel said.
Nahid and Sagar died while Rubel survived and was admitted to the Jamalpur General Hospital.
Attempts are also being made to arrest others involved in the robbery, said Md Rokonuzzaman, commanding officer of RAB-14.
