A man has killed his wife by strangling her reportedly due to suspecting she was having an extramarital affair and then committed suicide.
The incident took place in Garajnapara village in Ghatail upazila of Tangail.
The husband, Abdul Latif, 50, poisoned himself and was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where he died on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased woman was identified as Sabura Khatun.
On Sunday, Kaiser Hamid, brother of the deceased Sabura Khatun, filed a murder case with the police station.
According to the case statement and local sources, Sabura was the daughter of late Ibrahim of Rasulpur village in Khatun upazila.
Sabura was married to Abdul Latif of Garajnapara village in the same upazila about 30 years ago. They have two daughters and one son.
Latif was in Qatar for a long time and returned to the country three months ago.
Both of them suspected each other of infidelity and had recurring conflicts about it. The quarrels increased after Latif came back to the country.
Last Saturday morning, son Sabbir went to the madrasa as usual. However, when he returned home from the madrasa at noon he saw his mother's body lying on the bed with her mouth shut with scotch tape and a towel tied around her neck.
His father Latif, who drank poison, was found lying on the floor near the bed in a senseless condition.
Villagers came to the rescue hearing Sabbir's cries. Latif was sent to Madhupur Upazila Health Complex and later to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where he died on Sunday while undergoing treatment.
Sabura's cousin, neighbor Nuru Mia, said there were daily quarrels between the two on suspicion of extramarital affairs.
In this regard, Ghatail police station OC Azharul Islam said that in the initial investigation, the incident seems to be a murder. A murder case has been registered in the incident.
