The deceased tested positive on September 20
A primary school headmistress died from contracting coronavirus in Hathazari upazila of Chittagong on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Ferdousi Begum, 57, the headmistress of Chipatoli Ali Mohammad Government Primary School in Hathazari. She hailed from Dhalghat union in Patiya upazila of Chittagong.
She breathed her last at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Chittagong General Hospital at around 4pm on Sunday.
Confirming the matter, Upazila Education Officer Saida Alam said: “Ferdousi Begum informed me on September 15 after the symptoms of Covid-19 appeared.”
She also said that she immediately advised the headmistress not to go to the school anymore. “On September 20, she tested positive and was admitted to the hospital due to her deteriorating condition.”
Besides Ferdousi, three other teachers of the upazila were also infected with the deadly virus. They are Shahina Akhter, assistant teacher of Hathazari Model Government Primary School, Smriti Dutta, assistant teacher of Rashidia Government Primary School of North Burishchar and Sanchita Barua, headmaster of North Madarsha Mahluma Government Primary School.
Saida Alam said that the other infected teachers were in good health and had been kept in isolation.
“Classes are running normally till now. Other teachers and students of the schools are healthy and have been maintaining health guidelines strictly. We are constantly monitoring other schools in this regard,” she added.
