Youth held with NID making equipment in Chittagong

RAB-7 arrested a youth along with equipment for making national identity cards from a telecom shop in Chandagaon of Chittagong city on Sunday.

The arrestee was identified as Pradeep Das, 26, son of late Kajal Das, hailing from Azimpur village in Patiya upazila of Chittagong district.

RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Mohammad Nurul Afsar confirmed the matter early on Monday.

He said Pradeep Das had illegally been making fake national identity cards, birth certificates and union parishad citizenship certificates in various people’s names at a shop in Chandagaon area.

On a tip-off, RAB-7 conducted a drive at 7:30 pm Sunday. Pradeep Das was arrested while trying to flee after sensing the presence of RAB.

Later, the shop was searched and various tools for making fake certificates were recovered.

In primary interrogation Pradeep Das confessed to manufacturing fake certificates, said Nurul Afsar.

Das had been handed over to Chandagaon police station in Chittagong for further legal action, Nurul Afsar added.
