People of different ages are receiving their first shot of the Sinopharm vaccine at their respective vaccination centres following hygiene rules
With a target of inoculating 150,000 people at the union and municipality level, a mass vaccination campaign has been launched in Tangail on the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's 75th birthday.
Tangail Deputy Commissioner Ataul Gani inaugurated the program at Tangail Municipal Park Centre on Tuesday morning.
At that time, people of different ages received their first shot of the Sinopharm vaccine at the vaccination centres following mandatory hygiene rules.
According to the District Civil Surgeon's office, 75,065 people were recently vaccinated at the union and municipal level in the last mass vaccination campaign.
“This time around 150,000 people will be vaccinated on the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's birthday, which is twice as many people as the last campaign,” said Tangail Civil Surgeon Dr Abul Fazal Md Shahabuddin.
He also said the turnout at the vaccine centres was low in the morning due to rain. However, as the day progressed, the number of attendees increased. This campaign will run from 9am till 5pm.
“We are administering the shots to only those who are registered. However, senior citizens will be able to walk into the mass vaccination centres without prior registrations and get their shots,” the official added.
