A Rajshahi court has sentenced a man to 10 years in prison, in absentia, in a case filed by his former father-in-law under the Information and Communication Technology  (ICT) Act.

Rajshahi Cyber Tribunal Judge Ziaur Rahman passed the order on Tuesday.

The accused Golam Rasul, 35, from Panchgram village under Kahalu upazila in Bogra, has been a fugitive on the run.

He was also fined Tk5 lakh, defaulting which, he would have to suffer six months more behind the bars. The verdict will be effective after the arrest of the accused.

Public Prosecutor Ismat Ara told the reporters that Rasul had an extra-marital relationship with a woman and married her, hiding the fact of his conjugal life.

After a couple of months, the woman found out about his wife and son, and divorced Rasul on August 21, 2016.

Enraged at this, Rasul on August 24 left a packet containing some nude photographs of his ex-wife in her father's house.

The father lodged a complaint against Rasul with the local police station.

Later, police conducted a raid at Rasul's house and found 39 nude photographs in his computer, and seized the device.

The woman’s father then filed a case with Kahalu police station under Section 57 of the ICT Act.

Even though the police arrested Rasul at that time, he went into hiding after getting bail from the court.
