The principal of a madrasa, his wife and another teacher were arrested in Natore’s Ulupur on Thursday for reportedly torturing an 11-year-old girl student and keeping her locked in a room for six days.
The arrestees are principal of Talimunnesa Hafezia Madrasa Md Sohrab, his wife Salma Begum and Mohammad Babul, another teacher of the madrasa.
The student hails from Char Lakshmikol village of Sadar upazila.
The madrasa principal and his wife used to torture the female students of the madrasa and forced them to work like house help, said Natore police station OC Abu Sadad.
On September 24, Salma Begum had reportedly thrown steaming hot rice water on her for dropping a heavy rice pan on the floor.
Later, they locked the girl in a madrasa room without treating the serious burn injuries. The injuries then worsened due to infection, said the OC.
On Wednesday, the student’s father and family members came to know the matter, rescued her from the locked room and admitted her to Natore Sadar Hospital.
Her father Imran Islam filed a case with Natore police station in this regard, said OC Abu Sadad.
