Man arrested for raping woman in Tangail

Police have arrested a man on charges of raping a 24-year-old woman in Ghatail upazila of Tangail.

Abdur Rahman, 33, hailing from Gopalpur upazila, was arrested from Ghatail Sadar area after a case was filed by the woman on Thursday. 

Confirming the matter, Ghatail police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azharul Islam Sarkar said Abdur, a migrant worker, met the woman on a popular social media platform “Imo'' and they developed a romantic relationship. 

On September 25 afternoon, Abdur lured the woman with promises of marriage and asked her to come to Madhupur upazila. Later, she was taken to the house of Tula Mia in Khilgati village in Ghatail, where she was raped in a deserted room, he added.

Abdur has now been sent to jail, said OC Azharul.
