Police had been called after neighbours spotted the bodies at the man’s home
A 25-year-old man and his 22-year-old girlfriend were found dead in Gazipur in what the police have described as an apparent murder-suicide.
The incident was reported on Wednesday from a village in the district’s Kaliganj Upazila.
Hridoy Gomez, who worked for an NGO, murdered his girlfriend, nursing student Evana Rozario, before killing himself at his home in Baktarpur Union where he lived with his mother, said police.
“Hridoy was found dead with a knife in his hand next to Evana’s body,” said Sub-Inspector Abdus Salam of Kaliganj police.
The bodies have several injuries inflicted by a sharp weapon.
Hridoy had stab marks on his stomach while Evana’s throat was slit and there were injuries on her shoulder and face, according to the police officer.
No one was opening the door when Hridoy’s mother, who had gone to the Upazila town, returned Wednesday evening, said local Union Parishad member Kawser Alam.
But loud music was being heard from inside and the neighbours spotted the bodies after peeking through a window when the police were called, he said.
“It seems Hridoy brought in his girlfriend as his mother was out. Initial evidence suggests he murdered Evana and then stabbed himself with the knife. The windows were closed and we suspect the loud music was meant to muffle the screams,” said Sub-inspector Salam.
The bodies have been sent to the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur city, he said.
