The accused has been detained by the police
A third-grader, who was set on fire allegedly by his step-father in Satkhira last week, succumbed to his burn injuries at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as - Nazmul, a student of Ichapur Primary School in Kajla village of Kaliganj upazila, Satkhira.
According to the locals, Najmul used to live with his grandmother Fatema Khatun in Kajla village. On Friday night, Nazmul’s step-father Sobuj, along with his family members, set the grandmother’s house on fire. Both of them were sleeping inside the house at that time.
Later, the victims were rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, where Nazmul succumbed to his burn injuries on Wednesday morning.
Critically injured Fatema Khatun is undergoing treatment at the hospital, police said.
Meanwhile, the accused, Sobuj, has been detained, confirmed Kaliganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Mostafa.
"An FIR is being lodged in the case," he said.
