The Awami League named 41 individuals for seats reserved for women in parliament
Ruling party Awami League, in a surprise move, has nominated veteran actor Suborna Mustafa as a candidate for the parliament's reserved seats for women.
The party took the decision of nominating her after a meeting of Awami League local government nomination board held at Ganabhaban Friday night.
Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting where members of local government nomination board were present.
The Awami League named 41 individuals for seats reserved for women in parliament.
Among the 350 seats in parliament, 50 are reserved exclusively for women.
While the 300 parliamentary seats are contested in a direct election, the reserved seats are allocated to political parties in proportion to their number of seats in parliament.

Suborna Mustafa was born on December 2 in 1959 to film and television actor Golam Mustafa and Husne Ara Mustafa.
The veteran film and stage actor was also awarded the Ekushey Padak 2019 for her contribution to performing arts.
Suborna is also renowned for notable roles in television drama serials including Kothao Keu Nei (1990), Aaj Robibar (1999), and Ayomoy (1991).
A long-time cricket fan as well, Suborna has also been a sports commentator for Radio Bhumi since 2015.
As a member of the Censor Board, she participates in the National Film Awards selection.
