Dr Sheikh Maqsood Ali, former secretary of the Ministry of Relief and Rehabilitation passed away on Sunday at United Hospital at the age of 85.
His janaza will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque on Tuesday, after Asr prayers.
Maqsood Ali was the founder rector of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Center (BPATC).
He passed his M A in Economics in first class from the University of Dhaka in 1956. Soon after he joined the Central Civil Service of former Pakistan in 1959. He went on to earn another M A in Economics and a PhD from the University of Manchester in 1972.
He was made joint-secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, Inland Water Transport and Civil Aviation under General Osmany. He played a pioneering role in establishing Bangladesh Airlines (Biman) and Civil Aviation.
He went on to build the Project Implementation Bureau under the President’s Secretariat, In 1975 he was assigned as the Director General of the Civil Servant’s Training Academy (CSTA) and the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) under the Ministry of Establishment. He served NIPA from 1975-1984.
