Ershad: Awami League cannot go to polls without JaPa
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has claimed that the ruling Awami League cannot go to elections without his party's support. “No matter what anyone says, Jatiya Party is still one of the country's biggest parties,” Ershad told a meeting of JaPa's divisional leaders in Rangpur town on Thursday. “People no longer have faith on Awami League or BNP. Only Jatiya Party can fill this void,” the former military dictator said. He announced a rally in Rangpur for November 20 during the event. Ershad, whose party is currently the opposition in parliament, urged his party leaders to recapture all seats in Rangpur. He lamented the state of Rangpur, his hometown, saying the district's development had been neglected under the current government. “The majority of people from Rangpur are living in Dhaka's slums,” Ershad said. “No matter how much the government says that poverty has gone down in the country, I feel that it has gone up.” He urged party members to make the November 20 rally a success.
