The commitment was made in the 25-point election manifesto Shakhawat Hossain’s campaign revealed at a press conference on Monday. Construction of a bridge over Shitalakkhya River, a long-awaited demand of NCC citizens, was another corner stone of manifesto. The manifesto also promises to make the river pollution free, recover canals, develop the drainage system, solve gas and electricity crisis in the city corporation area. BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Vice Chairman Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed were present at the programme. Modern bus service will be introduced in Dhaka-Narayanganj route by the city corporation while every single ward will get modern library and IT training centres for students, he promised. The BNP candidate also pledged to build either a flyover or an underpass in No 2 rail gate and Chashara. Initiatives for building medical college, hospital, engineering college and university in both Bandar and Narayanganj were also included in his electoral pledge. Every house under City Corporation will get hygienic water while initiatives to withdraw all kind of taxes on tube well and deep tube well will be taken to ensure safe water for people, reads his electoral pledge. The BNP candidate was all set to compete with Awami League backed candidate Selina Hayat Ivy on December 22 when the NCC election was scheduled.
