JaPa to place five-point proposal to president
A 17-member JaPa delegation led by Chairman HM Ershad will submit the proposals during a scheduled meeting with the president at 3:00pm today at Bangabhaban in the capital. The meeting is being held as part of the president’s initiative to discuss EC reforms and nature of poll-time government during the next parliamentary polls with the country’s major political parties. BNP already had met the president on Sunday. The series of meetings will end on December 22. JaPa’s five proposals are: Enactment of independent election commission act; authorising EC to prepare its own budget; authorising EC to appoint employees including election commissioners; authorising EC to appoint all contractual employees during upazila, UP or parliamentary polls; and authorising EC to coordinate and execute administrative power during polls.
