10:50pm- Shakhawat alleges the government rigged the election against him "in a fine manner." 10:30pm- Official sources confirmed the Dhaka Tribune of Ivy's triumph over Shakhawat by more than 70,000 votes. 9:50pm- Ivy leads by nearly a thousand votes at vote centres in Chashara near Shakhawat’s home. Ivy received 1,930 votes to Shakhawat's 968 votes. 9:30pm- Ruling party endorsed candidate Selina Hayat Ivy has once again won the much-hyped Narayangaj mayoral election, reports several media outlets quoting Ivy's campaign office. 8:55pm- Returning Officer declares ban on victory rallies till December 24 midnight. 8:30pm- Netizens are already congratulating Ivy before the final tally is announced. 8:20pm- Vote tally in full swing. 7:30pm- Early vote counts show AL-endorsed candidate Ivy leading the race by a wide margin. 7:00pm- The CEC said: “The law enforcement and the administration have done splendid work. Only three people were fined Tk8000 for their infractions “We appreciate that no violence has occurred. Discipline was maintained throughout the election. We hope the candidates will accept the peoples’ verdict,” he added. 6:00pm- Returning Officer Nuruzzaman Talukdar told the Dhaka Tribune the voter turnout was around 63-65%. He said the numbers may change slightly after the final tally and detail would be announced soon. 5:00pm- Political leaders are waiting outside Narayanganj Town Hall with their countless supporters. The anticipation for the results is palpable. The increased security has ensured people could cast their ballots without fear." 4:20pm- Vote counts kick off. 4:00pm- The voting concludes. 2:40pm- Shamim Osman, MP from Narayanganj 4 constituency and ruling party strongman of the city, cast his ballot at Bar Academy Bhaban polling centre in Narayanganj city's Khanpur area. Sajeda Begum, a voter of Ward 24, said: “I have cast my vote. No one obstructed or allured me for casting vote in favour of their candidate.” 1:50pm- After visiting the Kadam Rasul polling centre in Ward 23, Dhaka Range Deputy Inspector General SM Mahfuzul Huq Nuruzzaman said: “Law enforcers are on alert. This election will remain as a good example in Bangladesh.” 1:40pm- While talking to the reporters at Sisubagh School polling centre, Mohanogor Trinomul Dal Secretary Delwar Hossain Dilu said: “We expect to bag 50% votes from this polling centre as it falls in Ivy’s area." 12:52pm- Tapkhan Girls Primary School Presiding Office Mohammad Mostafa says 26% votes have already been cast in Ward 8. 12:35pm- "We have not heard about any irregularities till now," Ruling Awami League candidate Selina Hayat Ivy told the reporters while visiting Safura Khatun Pilot High School Polling Centre. 12:12pm- Councillor candidate Motiur Rahman said: “Two supporters of my competitor tried to cast fake votes at Safura Khatun Pilot High School polling centre in the morning. Photo: Nure Alam Durjoy Police detains this man on fraud voting charges  Nure Alam Durjoy[/caption] 12:00pm- Two councillor candidates Sirajul Islam and Motiur Rahman Moti have accused each other brought allegations of vote rigging against each other, reports Nure Alam Durjoy. 11:50am- Rumana Akhter, a BNP polling agent of centre 18, told the Dhaka Tribune: “10 polling agents were supposed to be working here but two of them have not showed up yet.” 11:40am- “There is less presence of BNP polling agents at three polling centres in Narayanganj Sadar” Ashif Islam Shaon reports after visiting five polling centres. 11:30am- Safura Khatun Pilot High School Polling Centre’s Presiding Officer Jahangir Alam Prodhan told the Dhaka Tribune: “There are 2,670 voters in Ward 6. Out of them, some 820 people have already cast their votes within the first two hours of the polls.” 11:00am- BNP-backed candidate will sweep the polls if voting is free and fair, says BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing at Nayapaltan Headquarters. 9:50am- “The atmosphere is festive. I hope the situation will persist throughout the polls. I hope the situation will remain this joyous throughout the polls,” Selina Hayat Ivy told the media after casting her vote. Voting will continue till 4pm. A total of 474,931 voters – 239,662 male and 235,269 female – will exercise their franchise to elect their candidates.
