AL bid to lay siege to Moshtaq’s house foiled

Leaders and activists of the ruling party’s Daudkandi unit brought out a procession in Shahidnagar area on Sunday morning and marched toward Moshtaq’s ancestral house in Daudkandi’s Doshpara village to lay siege to the house. On receiving information, Daudkandi police barricaded the Shahidnagar-Juranpur road near the village with sand-filled tractors. A police team was deployed to secure the house and its surrounding areas as well.Khandaker Moshtaq Ahmed Khandaker Moshtaq Ahmed Born in the village of Daspara in Daudkandi, Moshtaq was the minister for Foreign Affairs, Law and Parliamentary Affairs of Mujibnagar Government. He became the commerce minister in Bangabandhu’s cabinet in 1975. He earlier served as the power, irrigation and flood control ministries. Moshtaq became president after the assassination of Bangabandhu. He was imprisoned by Brig Gen Khaled Mosharraf and later by Ziaur Rahman until 1978. After his release, he formed Democratic League. He died in Dhaka on March 5, 1996.
