Jamaat's online hartal
Although Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami called a countrywide dawn-to-dusk general strike on Thursday, little has been heard throughout the day by way of the usual hartal events. Although Jamaat and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir e-mailed several photos of protests and processions to the media, and uploaded several photos in the social media including Facebook and Instragram, journalists and photojournalists did not report seeing any protests. No Jamaat leader could be reached for comments on how the party had observed the day. Most cities across the country it was like any other day.
