Jubo League, the youth wing of the ruling Awami League party, celebrated its 45th founding anniversary on Saturday.
To mark the anniversary, leaders of Jubo League hoisted the national and the party flags at its central office in Dhaka at 6:30am. Subsequently, Jubo League members paid tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at 8:00am by placing floral wreaths at his portrait at Dhanmondi 32.
At 9am, Jubo League paid homage to Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani, the founding member of Jubo League, and the martyrs of August 15, 1975, at Dhaka’s Banani graveyard.
Dhaka city’s North and South Jubo League units also brought out colourful processions from the east gate of the historic Suhrawardy Udyan at 2:00pm, which ended at Bangabandhu Bhaban after parading through the city streets.
Apart from the central programme in the capital, district and upazila units of Jubo League also organised separate events to commemorate the day.
Earlier in a statement, Awami Juba League President Omar Faroque Chowdhury and General Secretary Harunur Rashid had urged all Jubo League leaders and activists to make the programmes of the day a success.
Jubo League is the first youth organisation of Bangladesh, founded by Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni at the directive of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The youth wing was formed through a youth convention at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, in Dhaka on November 11, 1972.
