Next polls under Hasina's government, says law minister

Update : 17 Nov 2017, 07:06 PM
Law Minister Anisul Huq has reaffirmed that the next general polls is going to be held under the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as per the provisions of the constitution. “According to the constitution, the next poll that is looming near is going to be held under the government which was elected by the people previously,” he said while addressing the inauguration of the electricity supply to Kalinagar village in Brahmanbaria's Akhaura upazila on Friday. Mentioning that people want the continuation of democracy in the country, the law minister also called upon the country's people to give 'tooth-breaking response' if terrorist activities are attempted ahead of the polls. Many conspiracies have been hatched over Bangladesh and it would not be tolerated any further, he cautioned. “There have been many conspiracies over Bangladesh. Begum Zia claims she is not getting justice. The case was filed against her by her handpicked [former] army chief Moin Uddin Ahmed. The trial of that case started in 2011. “Step by step, she had lost the case in the High Court and the Appellate Division and whiled away seven years. If we common people do not appear before the court, then we are bound to be handcuffed or tied to rope and produced before the court. But she (Khaleda) is traveling abroad – going anywhere she likes – disregarding the judiciary.” The law minister also made public his intent to contest the 11th parliamentary polls from his own electoral constituency of Brahmanbaria-4 (Kashba-Akhaura). The 11th general elections is likely to be held in December 2018.
