Update : 21 Nov 2017, 10:21 PM
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that the incumbent government has resorted to the forced disappearances, killings and arrests of its opponents, obliterating democracy. Speaking at the bienniel council of Thakurgaon district unit Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal at Zia Parishad Auditorium in Thakurgaon city on Tuesday, the BNP spokesperson also noted that incidents of violence against women, forced disappearances and killings have increased alarmingly during the reign of the incumbent government. “Today there is no security for our mothers and daughters – no security for people. People are being harassed, disappeared. Over the last few years, several thousand people have been killed. More than 500 people have been disappeared.” "Killings, forced disappearances and arrests are going on without respite. The government has destroyed all the pillars of democracy and snatched all the basic and voting rights of the people," said Fakhrul as quoted by UNB. The BNP secretary general grew emotional when describing the repression of BNP leaders and activists by the government. "Several hundreds of our leaders and activists have been disappeared. Their children are still waiting for their return," a weeping Fakhrul told the council. He alleged that currently people, including women and children, have no security as the law-and-order situation has deteriorated sharply. "Opening the newspapers, you'll only find the news on the repression of women, killings and forced disappearances."
