Update : 07 Jan 2018, 01:17 AM
Awami League General Secertary Obaidul Quader has said the party chief Sheikh Hasina wants Bangladesh Chhatra League to hold its next central council in March. Speaking at an event on Saturday after inaugurating a procession marking the 70th founding anniversary of the ruling party’s student front, Obaidul, also the road transport and bridges minister, said Prime Minister Hasina wanted the council to be held in March as it is the month of independence of Bangladesh. Chhatra League’s last council was held in 2015. Many members have voiced discontent over delays in holding the council. The current central committee of the organization has already expired on July 25 last year. Quader urged the central Chhatra League leaders to prepare for the council by holding a meeting of their executive committee. The minister, who is a former president of the student organization, spoke standing at the base of Aparajeyo Bangla sculpture in the Dhaka University campus. Saifur Rahman Sohag and SM Zakir Hossain were elected the president and the general secretary of the Chhara League central committee in its 28th council held on July 25 and 26 in 2015.
