Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan has said that BNP Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, who is currently staying in London, will be brought back to Bangladesh with the help of Interpol.
The minister made the comment on Friday while addressing a program held to inaugurate a new building at Charmugria Merchants High School in Madaripur.
Shajahan Khan added: “BNP is trying to put the blame on the Awami League for the conviction of Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. However, the court decision was free from all influence.”
Stating that the ruling party wants an inclusive 11th general election, the minister said: “The BNP is still suffering for the mistake they made by not participating in the 2014 general election.
“Both Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman are convicts, and their possible participation in the next general polls will be decided by the court and the Election Commission.”
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Madaripur Azharul Islam and Zila Muktijoddha Shongshod Commander Shajahan Hawladar were present at the program, among others.
Tarique Rahman was sentenced 10 years imprisonment in connection with the Zia orphanage Trust graft case on February 8 this year.
