BNP has deliberately kept its Chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail in order to gain sympathy, says Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan.
“BNP leaders have deliberately kept Khaleda Zia in prison. They are loitering the process of getting her out of jail to get public sympathy,” he told reporters after visiting work of an eco park in Madaripur's Char Muguria on Saturday.
Khlaeda Zia has been in prison since her conviction in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8.
Shajahan said BNP attempted to assume power by complaining to foreigners but failed.
“Awami League never depends on a foreign country to cling to power. However, it wants to maintain a friendly relation with neighbouring countries,” the minister added.
He said Awami League is a pro-people party and its founder Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had brought Bangladesh's independence with the help of the people.
Madaripur Zila Parishad Chairman Miazuddin Khan and other senior officials were present at the time.
