Khulna city polls: Councillor candidate seeks cancellation of polls in ward 22

Councillor candidate for the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election, Md Mahbub Kaiser, has submitted a written complaint to the Election Commission, seeking cancellation of votes in ward 22 of the city.

Mahbub, who had served as the councillor for ward 22, filed the complaint to district Returning Officer Md Yunus Ali on Tuesday, as the voting continued for the Khulna city polls.

In his written complaint, the councillor aspirant pointed out a number of irregularities, most notably obstruction of voters and assault on polling agents.

The complaint further read, “Polling agents representing the watch symbol are obstructing the voters from casting their ballot.

“The voters are being forced to vote for the abovementioned symbol. Those who are not complying, are being pushed out of the centre, and their votes are being stolen.”

Mahbub further complained two of his polling agents were dragged out from the Khulna Zila School centre and were then assaulted.

“Voters from polling centres at Fatima School, Notun Bazar Primary School, Hazi Abu Hanif Jatiya Madrasa centre also faced various irregularities such as being forced to cast ballot in favour of the watch symbol, vote rigging,” the written complaint read.
