BNP mayoral candidates collect nomination papers for 3 city polls

BNP mayoral candidates have started to collect nomination papers after the Election Commission announced the schedule for Rajshahi, Barisal, and Sylhet city polls.

BNP on Wednesday, announced it will be selling nomination papers for the upcoming city polls at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan.

So far, 12 people, have collected nomination forms from BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi  at the party office in Naya Paltan, for the upcoming city corporation elections in Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Barisal.

According to party sources, a meeting was held at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office on Monday afternoon, where top party leaders met with leaders of Rajshahi, Barisal, and Sylhet.

Top BNP leaders were asked to fix party strategies for the city elections and to finalize the candidates.

Some suggestions have come up from local leaders for selecting candidates. Local leaders have been instructed from the centre to take all necessary preparatory steps for the upcoming city elections.

For Sylhet City Corporation polls, current Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Sylhet city unit BNP President Nasim Hossain, and General Secretary Badruzzaman Selim, Ahsanul Haque Kawsar, Sylhet district unit Vice President Rejaul Kayes Hasan Lodi, and a former Chhatra Dal leader, Sanaullah Rimon, have collected nomination papers.

BNP’s Organizing Secretary, Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, bought nomination papers for present Rajshahi City Mayor, Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul.

From Barisal, Current Mayor Ahsan Habib Kamal, District (south) Vice President Ebadul Huq Chand, Central Executive Committee Member Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah, District Co-organizing Secretary Afroja Khanam Nasrin, Divisional Organizing Secretary Bilkis Jahan, and former student leader Ali Haider Babu, have collected nomination papers. 

The nomination seekers collected the nomination forms till 4pm from the BNP central office. They will submit their nomination papers to the BNP office on Thursday.

Voting is on July 30 in Rajshahi, Barisal, and Sylhet city corporations. Gazipur City Corporation elections will be held on June 26.
