Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the ruling party’s new political office at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue in Gulistan area of Dhaka.

She cut a ribbon as part of the inaugural ceremony on Saturday. This day also marks the 69th founding anniversary of the ruling party.

Earlier in the day, Sheikh Hasina placed a floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32.

Central leaders of Awami League and its associate organizations, ruling party ministers, and lawmakers were present during the inauguration program.

The ten-storey building was built with a budget of Tk15 crore. Construction was financed by party leaders and activists.

According to Awami League sources, the new office building includes modern facilities such as a state of the art conference hall, seminar room, multimedia library, separate lounges for VIPs and journalists, cafeteria, dormitories, and car parking.

The party president and the general secretary have their own office floors in the building.

Of the ten floors, seven will be used for organizational activity, where party leaders and activists from all units of the Awami League will have adequate office space.

The party chief will have her own office on the 8th floor, while the offices of the general secretary and joint-general secretaries will be on the 7th floor.

The building will house a 300-seat conference hall, a 100-seat seminar room and a well-equipped research room.

The party planned to inaugurate the office in March this year, but the ceremony was postponed due to delays in construction work.

The demolition of the previous Awami League central office began in July 2016.
